in the moment

Oh wowzers, the sun is out!! We actually made it to the park this morning, it felt so good to be out being active and letting the little one run and play in the fresh air.  And now that my lovely F is back from his solo adventure (well, 5 days of freedom and solitude feels pretty adventurous to me!) I have my camera back too - Yay!!! So here are a few random moments from today....

I said hold on tight!

apple blossom...

making snack time fun...

talking about big, little and in between (and ignoring the mess!).

The constant rain has been making me feel quite flat this week, of course not helped by having a cold and being on my own with the kids last weekend, my energy levels haven't caught up yet!  I'm finding comfort in these moments, actually feeling them and living them, trying to keep my attention present rather than mentally wandering off into past and future, what should have been done, what needs doing next.  Sometimes R will look up at me in the middle of eating his lunch or playing with his toys and say 'I'm happy Mum' in a lovely matter of fact way, just noticing where he's at in that moment and sharing his feelings.  He's teaching me to enjoy the journey.

I hope your day is full of joyful moments too.

    1. Thank you Jen! I think so much of our searching as grown ups is actually us trying to find our way back to that sense of freedom and absorption in the moment that we had as children. I'm trying to let my kids teach me their wise ways, it's not always easy, there's so much distraction! Hope you've had some dry moments today! x

    1. Ah thanks honey, I don't know what I did right in terms of vegetables, both my boys love them! And yes I do love that hat, it's probably stripe overkill to put it on him with that cardigan, but you can never have too many rainbows hey?! x

    1. That was all him, he asked me to find 'the star wars robot' so I got the middle one (which makes noises so it's the most fun), then he asked for the big one, then he went into the other room and came back with the little lego one! We had a lot of fun with R2D2s today. x

  4. Lovely post, I've got so much to learn about being in the moment, my brain lets me down so much with wandering off!

    1. Oh Cath I really struggle with it, which is why I'm making more of an effort - I can feel their childhood whizzing by while I'm thinking about a million other things! I can't remember who said it, but I keep thinking of that phrase 'Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans' - of course sometimes we have to be thinking about practical things, but I don't want them to feel like I'm not paying them proper attention! x

    1. Thanks Jo, I love that hat so much - it's great when he's off on the other side of the park or running in the woods, I can always see where he is! xx

  6. Hiya Rachel, I love the rainbow hat, that'd have to blast away the clouds. So glad the rain stopped long enough for you to get out and about, it sucks being stuck indoors because of the weather. It's been pretty wet in these parts too.
I disappeared into the ether that is life and have just caught up on your posts. Glad your Frank's back and you're feeling better.
    Jo :)

    1. Hi lovely, yes it's been pretty vile in the UK for a few weeks now, it was a relief to get out in the fresh air today! I've just popped over to your blog and caught up on your posts too, it's been a while- life gets so busy sometimes! x

  7. Hi Rachel, such a lovely post! It's something I struggle with too, I'm always thinking about what I should be doing, could be doing when I should be just enjoying the here and now! I feel the same sometimes, that the little ones are growing up so super quick and I need to stop thinking about whats next and keep my attention on the moment. Hope your feeling back to yourself soon, it's horrible when your still getting over a bug and you just don't have any energy. We seem to have cold after cold at the moment. Hope your getting some better weather too xx

    1. Hi Caroline, well I haven't been rained on yet today so that's a big improvement! I think this 'being in the moment' thing is very hard for everyone, there's always so much that needs doing, and planning is important otherwise nothing would ever get achieved; but recently I've really felt that the kids aren't getting my best and that's not fair on them - hopefully once I'm properly better I'll be full of beans for creative and active play! Hope you're all cold free soon, fingers crossed for lots of sunshine over your way! xx

    1. Hi Col, thanks for your lovely comment. Yes he is a sweetie, and generally a very happy boy. He's also very sensitive and aware of other people's feelings, which is very sweet and also keeps me cheerful cause he gets really upset if he thinks I'm not happy! x
